The English translation of the title is "Isophonic Curves for the Airports of Alghero, Cagliari, and Olbia".

In 1971, the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Assembly adopted a resolution concerning the limitation and measurement of noise levels in the vicinity of airports, called Annex 16.

This large-format book describes the procedures to calculate the WECPNL (Weighted Equivalent Continuous Perceived Noise Level) as specified in Annex 16, and presents the expected noise levels of the three major airport of the Italian island of Sardinia.

The translation of the table of contents is as follows:

Chapter 1: Determination of the acustic situation in terms of WECPNL, following the method ICAO.
Chapter 2: Computer procedures.
Chapter 3: Forecasts of airport traffic.
Chapter 4: Take off and landing paths. Percentage utilisation.
Chapter 5: WECPNL isophonic curves in tabular form (calculated by computer).
Chapter 6: Maps of isophonic curves.

At the time, I was working for Euro-bit srl, an Italian software house and computer reseller. Personal computers didn't exist, and microprocessor-based computers from Digital and HP were hot.

I was given the task to evaluate a new minicomputer from Texas Instruments called the DX-10. One of the company's directors, Valerio Franchina, thought that a good way to do so was to implement on the new minicomputer the procedure to calculate noise levels around airports as specified in ICAO's Annex 16.

We ditched the computer, because it was too wasteful of disk space, but the noise calculations formed the basis of the publication described in this page.
